The automotive industry is a wide industry with various jobs focusing on different vehicle parts.. Simply put, an automotive electrician works on the wiring within vehicles. Find out more about automotive electricians and what they do below:
What is an automotive technician?
An automotive electrician is trained to work on the electrical systems of various vehicles such as cars, trucks and busses. These electricians are employed to install, maintain and repair the electrical systems in vehicles. These systems include electrical wiring and computerised equipment.
What do they do?
An automotive electrician does a lot more than just work on the vehicles. They must first diagnose the issues and determine whether the affected systems can be repaired or if they must be replaced. They need to be able to communicate effectively with the clients about their vehicles, the problems and the solution. Once the problems have been discussed with the client, the electrician can then move on with the process. If the car needs replacement parts, the automotive electrician must do the necessary research and order the parts. They will need to adjust and repair electrical systems as necessary to ensure that they are always running at optimal performance.
Training
The automotive electrician will need basic electrician training which can be learned through electrical technology or an apprenticeship. Specialised training for automotive electrical work will be required and can be learned through on-the-job training. This training may be given to you through an electrician apprenticeship, but you may also be required to seek out a specialty apprenticeship.
