Minimum requirements for Pre-Test Training

Prior to completing a trade test for their chosen trade, an individual must undergo pre-test training. For their pre-test training, there are a few minimum requirements that they would have to meet in order to apply for a trade test. These requirements vary between certain trades, such as between automotive electricians and motor mechanics. Read about the minimum requirements for pre-test training below:

Automotive electrician

An automotive electrician in training must meet various requirements before they can write a trade test, or complete training for that matter. However, there are different routes that can be taken to meet these requirements. To qualify as an applicant for a trade test an automotive electrician can get various qualifications, such as an N2 qualification or an engineering NCV at NQF level 3. They will be required to complete the qualifications as well as a certain amount of time completing work experience. The two qualifications mentioned previously require a minimum of 3 years of work experience. In some cases, qualifications are not required, and an individual can qualify for a trade test by having a Grade 9 and a minimum of 4 years of work experience.

Motor mechanic

Minimum requirements are also set for motor mechanics in training. In order for these trainees to take a trade test and become a fully qualifies motor mechanic, they need to be at least 19 years old and should have had a minimum of 3 years of work experience. Once they have completed this, they will have the basic knowledge that they need to complete the pre-test training. After completing the training, they can take their required documents and use them in their application for the trade test.
